Our aim is to help disadvantaged families living in run-down, local municipality owned\u00a0tenements, generally struggling with rent-arrears. We carry out renovations involving young volunteers and the mostly unemployed locals within the framework of a reconstruction camp. The increase in the value of the buildings brought about by the renovations is credited to the tenants thus reducing their arrears of rent.\u00a0Our goal was to prevent forced evictions which\u00a0are the results of\u00a0the rent arrears \u2013 with a one-time possibility people for people to get out of their\u00a0debt spirals.\u00a0Within this collaboration we could offer local people an opportunity to shape their surroundings by working together, thus perceiving themselves as a group with a common interest, and to upgrade thesocial housing settlement’s community and\u00a0increase their\u00a0consciousness. The camp also gives a possibility to improve their own neighborhood,\u00a0and create more\u00a0sustainable living conditions.\u00a0Meeting and working together with volunteers from all over the country people can see each other’s lives directly without any negative stereotypes. The\u00a0media representation of the project has a positive\u00a0impact on many people\u2019s thinking about\u00a0social problems\u00a0and tenants of social housing units, and by involving various people we can reduce social exclusion.<\/p>\n
